Description
Applications of Astragalus Polysaccharide in Animals
The applications of Astragalus Polysaccharide in animals mainly revolve around several directions:immune regulation, anti-stress, growth promotion, and auxiliary disease prevention and control. It has been studied and practiced in pigs, poultry, ruminants, and aquaculture.
Pigs
Enhancing immunity and vaccine efficacy: Used for immunosuppression caused by PRRS (porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome), porcine circovirus, etc. Administration before and after vaccination can enhance antibody levels.
Relieving stress and promoting growth: Use during stressful periods such as weaning and transfer helps stabilize feed intake; supplementation in finishing pigs can increase average daily gain and reduce feed-to-meat ratio.
Improving sow reproductive performance: Supplementation during gestation can increase the number of healthy piglets and reduce stillbirths, and it also aids postpartum recovery.
Poultry (Chickens, Pigeons)
Enhancing immunity and disease resistance: Supplementation in broiler diets can increase Newcastle disease antibody titers and improve immune organ indices. In vitro studies have confirmed that it can alleviate inflammatory damage in avian macrophages through the TLR2/PI3K/AKT/NF-κB pathway.
Promoting growth and improving blood parameters: In trials with Xueshan native chickens, supplementation with Astragalus Polysaccharide significantly increased average daily gain, reduced feed-to-weight ratio, and improved blood lipid parameters.
Ruminants (Cattle, Sheep)
Beef cattle: Dietary supplementation has been studied for its effects on growth performance, immunity, and antioxidant function.
Hu sheep: Research covers effects on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immune function, as well as regulation of in vitro rumen fermentation parameters and microbial flora.
Aquatic Animals
Fish: Supplementation in Nile tilapia feed can increase weight gain rate, reduce feed conversion ratio, and improve intestinal morphology and antioxidant capacity under ammonia nitrogen stress. In addition, studies have explored its role in slowing the spread of antibiotic resistance genes in fish intestines and its use in combination with vaccines to prevent infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) in rainbow trout.
Seahorses: Through enrichment and transfer via Artemia, an appropriate amount of Astragalus Polysaccharide can improve the growth performance and survival rate of juvenile lined seahorses and enhance their resistance to transport stress.
